New OSHA Ergonomic Rule
Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at 09:31AM Yesterday morning, OSHA released the final version of a new ergonomics standard that will effect employers small and large.
Under the new rule, if a work-related repetitive stress injury is reported (such as from typing) or a known hazard exists, most employers will be required to (1) create and implement a comprehensive ergonomics program for the problem job or (2) implement a "quick fix" to alleviate the problem for the affected worker.
The text of the OSHA ergonomics standard is available at this link.
The new standard is scheduled to go into effect on January 16, 2001. There will be a lot of media regarding this new OSHA standard. You should be aware of the standard and respond immediately to any claim of repetitive stress injury.
