New Year - New Minimum Wage
Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 09:39AM Oregon minimum wage rates increase automatically the first of every year. Effective January 1, 2007, the hourly minimum wage increased to:
$7.80 per hour (previously $7.50 per hour)
As discussed in a post below, with a new minimum wage comes two new employment posters that Oregon employers are required to display. That post includes a link for downloading a free copy of those posters.
You are probably aware that you must pay the minimum wage of the state where your employees work or the federal minimum wage, whichever is higher. Since the federal minimum wage is currently $5.15 per hour (though there is talk of an increase), Oregon employers must pay the higher state minimum that is now $7.80.
If you have employ workers in other states, you need to be aware of any changes in the minimum rate for those states. You can find minimum wage rates for each of the 50 states at the Department of Labor's website.
